Research Says Teens, Young Adults Explore Differently
New research co-authored by psychologists at University of Arizona, Harvard University and Weill Cornell Medical College finds that teenagers are more likely to engage in 'random exploration', i.e. exploration without an end-goal in mind, than young adults who, in turn, are more likely to engage in information-seeking 'directed exploration'. The findings suggest that adolescents are less 'future-oriented' in that they are less likely to give up short-term rewards in order to gather information that might be useful for them in the future.
